DriveIn - Legal

Terms of Use

Effective 29 October 2026

The short version

  • 01Video on the car's screen is for passengers and parked cars only. Never watch, set up or control DriveIn while driving.
  • 02DriveIn is a player. It comes with no videos or channels, and you're responsible for what you play.
  • 03DriveIn Pro is an auto-renewing subscription handled by Apple. You can cancel any time in your Apple Account settings.
  • 04The laws of New South Wales, Australia apply, and your consumer rights are unaffected.

These terms apply to DriveIn for iPhone and iPad, including its CarPlay screens, screen-mirroring extension and Live Activity ("the app"), made by Karan Fadnavis in Sydney, Australia ("I", "me"). By downloading or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

[I]

Safety first

Video on the car's screen is for passengers, and for when the car is parked. Never watch, set up or control DriveIn while you're driving, and always follow the road rules where you are.

DriveIn takes video off the car's screen when it can tell the car is moving, but it can't always tell. Don't rely on it: keeping your attention on the road is your responsibility.

Whether video can show in your car depends on your car, its maker and iOS, which can withdraw video at any time.

[II]

Your licence

The app is licensed, not sold, to you under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"). These terms add to the Standard EULA; if the two conflict, the Standard EULA applies.

You may use the app for your own personal, non-commercial use on Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store's Usage Rules allow. You may not copy, modify, resell or redistribute the app, or reverse-engineer it except where the law or an open-source licence allows.

[III]

The content you play

DriveIn is a player only. It doesn't provide, host, sell or recommend any videos, channels, playlists or streams, and I have no connection with any provider whose content you add.

You're responsible for what you add and play, and for having the right to watch it. Don't use DriveIn to watch content you don't have the right to access.

Some apps and services block screen recording or casting, and DriveIn can't show them. That's their choice, not a fault in the app.

[IV]

Free minutes and DriveIn Pro

DriveIn is free to download. You get 60 free minutes of video on the car's screen, counted only while video shows there; they don't renew. Watching on your iPhone, adding sources and browsing are free. On iPad, DriveIn is free with no limits.

DriveIn Pro removes the limit on the car's screen. It's an auto-renewing subscription bought through the App Store. Payment is taken from your Apple Account when you confirm, and the subscription renews at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. You can manage or cancel it in your Apple Account settings.

Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may change; Apple tells you before a price rise applies to your subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

[V]

Third-party services

DriveIn can connect to services you choose, such as Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, OpenSubtitles.com, your network shares and websites. Their names are used only to say what DriveIn works with; they aren't affiliated with or endorsing DriveIn. Each is governed by its own terms, and I'm not responsible for their availability or content.

[VI]

Open-source software

DriveIn plays video with MobileVLCKit and FFmpeg, licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License 2.1, and uses icons from Iconoir under the MIT License. Their notices, licences and source links are in the app under Settings > About > Open-Source Notices.

[VII]

Intellectual property

The app's design, code, name and icon belong to Karan Fadnavis. These terms don't give you any rights to them beyond using the app. CarPlay, iPhone and iPad are trademarks of Apple Inc.

[VIII]

Changes and availability

I may update, change or stop offering the app or any of its features at any time. I'll do my best to keep it working well, but I can't promise it will always be available, work in every car or with every source, or be free of errors.

[IX]

Warranties and liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the app is provided "as is" and "as available", and the Standard EULA's disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability apply to it. I'm not liable for any loss or harm that comes from using the app while driving or in breach of these terms.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be excluded, such as the Australian Consumer Law or the consumer laws of your country.

[X]

Apple

These terms are between you and me, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for the app or its content, or for providing maintenance and support. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of the Standard EULA and may enforce it against you.

[XI]

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. If you're a consumer living elsewhere, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country.

[XII]

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms from time to time. The effective date above shows when they last changed. If a change is material, the app asks you to accept it again.
