PRIVACY POLICY

Effective 29 September 2026

The short version

  • MessageBoard doesn't collect, store or share any personal data. There's no account, and the app never connects to the internet.
  • Your favourites, recent quotes and settings are stored only on your device.
  • No analytics, no ads, no tracking, and no third-party code that collects data.
  • If you contact support, I receive your email address and message - and use them only to reply.

This policy explains how MessageBoard ("the app") handles information. MessageBoard is made by Karan Fadnavis, an independent developer in Sydney, Australia ("I", "me"). It covers the MessageBoard apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro, their widgets, and the support options on this website.

01Information the app collects

None. MessageBoard does not collect personal data of any kind - no name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, photos, device or advertising identifiers, or usage analytics. There is no account and no sign-in.

The app has no internet connection: every quote is bundled inside the app, it never sends or receives data over the network, and it works fully offline.

02What is stored on your device

To work, MessageBoard keeps a small amount of data locally, on your device only:

  • Favourites - the quotes you've saved and when you saved them.
  • Recent quotes - the last 20 quotes shown, so you can find one again. Older entries are deleted automatically.
  • Preferences - your default categories, language, appearance, and Daily Message settings (whether it's on, its time and its categories).
  • Widget settings - each widget's categories, schedule and theme, and the quotes it has lined up to show. Your device's widget system stores some of these settings for the app.

This data is shared only between MessageBoard and its own widgets on the same device (using Apple's App Group feature), so they stay in sync. It is never sent to me or to anyone else.

The app also reads your device's language setting to choose which language to show quotes in. This happens on the device and isn't stored or sent anywhere.

03Notifications

If you turn on Daily Message, MessageBoard asks for permission to send notifications, then schedules them on your device using Apple's notification system. There are no notification servers and no remote push notifications. Turning Daily Message off cancels any notifications that are scheduled.

Depending on your settings, notifications from your iPhone may also appear on a paired Apple Watch.

04Third parties

MessageBoard contains no third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, crash-reporting or tracking software, and it doesn't use App Tracking Transparency because it doesn't track you. It includes two open-source components that run entirely on your device and don't collect or send data: GRDB, a database library, and Phosphor Icons, an icon set.

Apple distributes the app through the App Store and handles downloads and any payments under its own privacy policy. I never receive your payment details. Apple may give me aggregated, anonymous statistics - for example about downloads, or from people who choose to share analytics with app developers in their device settings. These don't identify you.

05Support and this website

If you email support@karanfadnavis.com (including through the app's Send Feedback option) or use the contact form on this website, I receive your email address, your name if you give it, and your message. I use them only to reply and to improve the app, keep them only as long as needed for that, and never sell or share them.

The app's Privacy Policy and Help & Support links open pages on this website in your browser. Like any website, its hosting provider receives standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type, which may be kept briefly in server logs for security. This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking.

06Keeping and deleting your data

Everything MessageBoard stores stays on your device, so you're in control of it:

  • Remove a favourite by tapping its heart.
  • Turn off Daily Message to cancel scheduled notifications.
  • Delete the app to remove all of its data from that device.

On a Mac, moving the app to the Trash doesn't remove the data macOS keeps for it. To remove everything, also delete these folders: ~/Library/Group Containers/group.messageboard.shared, ~/Library/Containers/com.messageboard.app and ~/Library/Containers/com.messageboard.app.widget.

If you back up your device (for example to iCloud or your computer), the backup may include MessageBoard's data, as with any app. Backups are handled by Apple or your computer, under your own settings.

07Children

MessageBoard doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app has no accounts, messaging or ways to share content with other people.

08Your rights

Because the app collects no personal data, I hold nothing about you from using it. If you've contacted me, you can ask to see, correct or delete that correspondence at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as Australia's Privacy Act 1988, New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020, the EU and UK GDPR or California's CCPA, and I'll honour those requests. I don't sell or share personal information.

If you're unhappy with how I've handled a privacy concern, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or your local data protection authority.

09App Store privacy label

Because the app collects no data, its App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected.

10Changes to this policy

If MessageBoard's handling of data ever changes, I'll update this page and its effective date before the change ships, and mention material changes in the app's release notes.
